Automation & Electrical Engineer (Plant Operations) – COMOS/ Freelancer Remote 

Location: Remote (1 week per month on-site in Vienna, Austria)

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Automation & Electrical Engineer with a strong background in plant operations, not purely engineering design.

This role requires a professional who has worked directly in industrial facilities, supporting and optimizing electrical and automation systems in live operational environments. The ideal candidate has hands-on plant experience and understands the realities of site operations, maintenance coordination, and system troubleshooting.

The position is primarily remote, with mandatory presence one week per month in Vienna.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure reliable and safe operation of plant electrical and automation systems

• Provide hands-on technical support and advanced troubleshooting in operational environments

• Monitor system performance and support continuous optimization initiatives

• Support plant modifications, upgrades, and commissioning activities

• Collaborate closely with site operations and maintenance teams

• Maintain, update, and manage technical documentation in COMOS

• Ensure compliance with safety and operational standards

• Act as technical interface between operations, maintenance, and engineering teams

Required Experience

• Proven experience in plant or facilities operations (industrial, energy, process industry, manufacturing, etc.)

• Strong on-site operational background — not exclusively office-based engineering

• Several years of hands-on experience in electrical systems and industrial automation

• Experience working in live production or processing environments

Technical Requirements

• Solid knowledge of:

  • Low- and medium-voltage electrical systems

  • PLC systems, control systems, instrumentation

  • Industrial automation architecture

• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills

• Practical working experience with COMOS (engineering & plant lifecycle data management tool)

  • Administrative-level expertise is not required

  • Ability to work confidently with technical documentation in COMOS is mandatory

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or equivalent

• Strong understanding of industrial safety standards

• Fluent English required (German is a plus)

Work Model

• Remote-based position

• Required on-site presence in Vienna: 1 week per month

• Additional travel may occur depending on operational needs
