Job description
  • You will join an international engineering office with a strong maritime focus. The team works on a wide variety of vessel projects, covering concept design, basic design, detailed engineering and production support.
  • You will work closely with naval architects, structural engineers, outfitting engineers, electrical specialists, suppliers, shipyards, class societies and client representatives. Your role will connect technical design decisions with practical buildability, safety verification and regulatory compliance.
  • Your challenge is to design ship accommodation and safety arrangements that protect people on board, support efficient vessel operations and meet applicable maritime regulations, flag requirements, class rules and ISO standards.
  • You will contribute to decision-grade design documentation, including drawings, specifications, layouts, safety plans, evacuation logic, material selections and commissioning procedures that can be reviewed, approved, purchased and built with a clear audit trail.
What you’ll do
  • Develop accommodation and safety layouts from sketch level through basic and detailed design, including cabins, corridors, mess areas, galleys, offices, recreational spaces and provision areas.
  • Prepare technical specifications and purchase specifications for accommodation materials, galley equipment, laundry systems, furniture, sanitary fittings, insulation, panels, ceilings and deck coverings.
  • Define firefighting and lifesaving equipment requirements, including lifeboats, rescue boats, liferafts, ladders, gangways, fire control arrangements and safety plans.
  • Produce and check key design drawings such as general arrangements, escape plans, structural fire protection plans, accommodation layouts, insulation arrangements, window schedules and launching arrangements.
  • Review vibration and noise reports and translate the findings into suitable accommodation material selections and technical requirements.
  • Support documentation such as Garbage Management Plans, Escape and Evacuation Analysis, Safety Manuals and installation procedures for accommodation outfitting.
  • Prepare commissioning test procedures for galley, laundry, firefighting and lifesaving equipment, ensuring traceability between requirements, installation and verification.
Profile
What you bring
  • A technical education in naval architecture, marine engineering, shipbuilding, mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with ship accommodation, outfitting, safety systems, firefighting systems or lifesaving equipment.
  • Understanding of maritime rules and regulations, including class, flag and international safety requirements.
  • Ability to prepare clear technical drawings, specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Practical awareness of shipyard interfaces, production constraints and supplier documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain traceability between requirements, drawings, materials and verification documents.
  • Good communication skills in English and the ability to work with multiple technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with accommodation layouts, fire control plans, safety plans, escape plans or structural fire protection documentation.
  • Knowledge of galley, laundry, pantry, gym, sanitary, furniture and modular cabin systems.
  • Experience preparing purchase specifications for accommodation, firefighting or lifesaving equipment.
  • Familiarity with 3D functional layouts, colour scheme presentations or ship interior coordination.
  • Experience with commissioning test procedures for galley, laundry, firefighting or lifesaving equipment.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards, SOLAS-related requirements or class approval processes.
